![]() Vvulf's soldiers are forced to fight cultists/undead/mutants and also the mercenary army of the deluded scion of the Ancestor who set this whole nightmare plan into motion. One in which Vvulf, a powerful and heroic leader, fights a desperate struggle to stop the unleashing of a cosmic horror. In theory, you could take the DD story and retell it from Vvulf's perspective, and it would be a far more conventional RPG tale. In addition, the Bandits can be found in every locations EXCEPT the Darkest Dungeon. Isn't it possible that's because they're *also* fighting the cultists/undead/mutants in addition to the Heir's patsy adventurers? And the heir is working toward unleashing the cosmic horror, albeit unwittingly working toward that end.Īnd yes, the bandits are found in other locations, but never fighting alongside cultists/undead/mutants. ![]() The most logical answer is that the human bandits are the only enemies actually trying to stop the heir. The question is why are human bandits trying so hard to destroy the hamlet, whereas the cultists/undead/mutants are content to let the hamlet grow in power? All of these points are established in-game. (5) We also know the bandits are trying to stop recruits and supplies from coming to the hamlet. That is a very strange choice, unless you're brining cannons to do something like attack the hamlet. (4) The bandits also bring heavy cannons with them (the boss fight in the Weald). Why not the cultists or undead or mutants? ![]() (3) Despite human bandits being the least peculiar type of enemy you encounter, human bandits are the only ones that attack the hamlet. Strangly, human bandits are among those enemies, but you never encounter bandits fighting alongside the other human cultists or undead or mutants (with the possible exeption of the rabid dogs). ![]() (2) We also know that, although the various locations are populated by human cultists, undead, and sundry mutants. During the final mission, the Ancestor implies that he made the player his unwitting stooge in bringing his plan to fruition. (1) We know that the Ancestor eventually reveals that his plan all along is to awaken this cosmic evil being. I have been thinking about this for some time, and begun to theorize that the bandit leader Vvulf-not the player-is the actual protagonist of Darkest Dungeon. ![]()
